Tired of Chronic Foot Pain?

Plantar Fasciitis is the most common cause of chronic heel pain. It occurs when plantar fascia, a thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of the foot, becomes inflamed. Plantar Fasciitis Embolization (PFE) is a safe and effective procedure which involves selectively blocking and reducing the increased blood flow to the inflamed plantar fascia.

Interventional radiologists conduct this minimally invasive procedure to reduce the inflammation and pain associated with plantar fasciitis that has not improved with conservative therapy (known as refractory plantar fasciitis).

Is PFE the Right Choice for You?

Have you been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis?

Have you had chronic (more than 6 months) intense heel pain?

Have you had conservative treatments which did not work?

These treatments might include rest, physical therapy, stretching exercises, and orthotics (heel pads, splints, etc).

Have you taken NSAIDs such as Motrin and Aleve to control your pain?

Have you had more invasive alternative treatments which did not work?

These treatments might include local steroid injections, plasma injections, radiofrequency electromagnetic field therapy, or extracorporeal shockwave therapy.

Do you have moderate to severe knee pain?

If you answered “yes” to most of these questions, you might be a candidate for PFE. Book a consult with one of our specialists to decide if PFE is the right step for you.

What to Expect with PFE

PFE is a new and minimally invasive alternative therapy in the management of patients with chronic heel pain from plantar fasciitis which is highly effective and with an excellent safety profile.
How does embolization work?
It involves placing a small catheter selectively into the vessel using x-ray guidance and injection microparticles into vessel to reduce the increased blood flow and inflammation thus leading to pain control.
What should I expect on the day of the procedure?
This is an outpatient procedure that is typically performed with moderate sedation through a tiny pinhole in the groin. The typical procedure takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour to complete. You can look forward to a same day discharge with minimal pain and an expected quick recovery.
When will I feel pain relief?
Most patients report measurable, long lasting pain relief shortly after the procedure.
